Scope and Sequence

Performance Students develop skills in safe dance practice, dance technique and performance quality. They will also build their understanding of anatomy and healthy practices through practical and theoretical learning activities. Performance classes will focus on the development of body skills, sequences and safe dance practice and will include a number of dance styles, mainly contemporary dance. |
Composition Students develop skills in dance composition, focusing on; the elements of dance, generation of movement, movement motif development and manipulation, organisation of movement and the dance. Students will also develop skills in evaluating their own and other compositions. |
Appreciation Students develop an appreciation for dance as an artform, the communication of ideas and of the socio-historic context in which dance exists. Focus areas include the development of dance in Australia and Indigenous dance and the development of analysis skills through the study of both Australian and International choreographers.
